Members of the GFD in August 2006

The Gananoque Fire Department is a composite department.

Our operation has a full time Chief and three full time professional firefighters which man the station twenty four hours a day during the week. On weekends, beginning on Friday at 23:30 hrs; one of two part time *firefighters will take up the duties at our station for twenty four hours, the second on Saturday at 23:30hrs and will be relieved on Sunday at 23:30 hrs. These firefighters rotate on a three week cycle. The remaining firefighters are volunteers, some of which cover occasional fill in work. This structure guarantees a quick response to any emergency.

We operate in a two platoon system for minor emergency calls and a General Alarm for major calls. When the alarm is paged out, the on-duty firefighter responds to the location of the call with the apparatus,  while the remaining firefighters respond directly to that scene.

Gananoque is a part of the Leed's Grenville Mutual Aid System which is headquartered out of Brockville, Ontario. During a major emergency, any of the Departments may call on their neighbors for assistance.

Unlike the other Fire Departments in our Mutual Aid System, GFD is dispatched by Gananoque's enhanced,  local,  911 system.
